Chicana/o/x Resilience, Chicana/o/x Stories: Cultura Cura

  • Institute of Chicana/o/x Psychology & Community Wellness 2000 Thrasher Ln TX United States (map)

IN PERSON, Austin, TX - Resistencia Books, 2000 Thrasher Ln.

Dec. 5th, 11am - 2pm

This workshop platica explores storytelling as both an ancient practice and a revolutionary act of self-determination. Through a Chicana/o/x Indigenous and culturally grounded lens, participants examine the stories that have been placed upon us and the stories we carry about ourselves, our families, and our communities. The workshop invites participants to reconnect with personal, familial, communal, cultural, and ancestral strengths and consider how we can re-story our lives without separating ourselves from relationship, history, and culture.

Drawing from Chicana/o/x Psychology and Narrative Therapy, the workshop invites participants to reflect, witness and to explore how family and community stories shape identity and well-being. We will identify knowledge and strengths that may have been obscured, forgotten, or pushed aside and to then re-story with resilience in ways that more fully represent who we are and where we come from
